To understand the performance of Runxing’s Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plates, one must examine the microstructural composition of the material. Our CCO plates are produced by open-arc cladding of alloy-rich flux-cored wires onto structural steel (Q235/Q355 or equivalent). This welding process deposits a hypereutectic overlay that contains a high volume fraction of primary M7C3 chromium carbides embedded in a tough, austenitic-martensitic matrix.

Chemical Composition

Our overlay weld deposits typically contain 3.5% to 5.5% Carbon (C) and 25% to 35% Chromium (Cr), yielding an ideal volume fraction of wear-resistant carbides.

Surface Hardness

Achieves macro-hardness levels ranging from 58 to 62 HRC (equivalent to ~650–780 HV). The micro-hardness of the individual primary chromium carbides reaches up to 1700 HV.

DIN 8555 Classification

Aligned to international standards for hardfacing materials, specifically conforming to DIN 8555 Grade WS10-60-G for abrasive sliding wear.

During the solidification process of the weld pool, primary M7C3 hexagonal rod-like carbides grow perpendicular to the weld boundary. When abrasive particles (such as rock minerals, sand, or cement clinker) sweep across the plate surface, these hard carbides act as barriers that prevent cutting and scraping. The surrounding ductile matrix absorbs minor impacts, preventing brittle spalling of the hardfacing layer.
