The resulting microstructure exhibits primary M7C3 chromium carbides (with microhardness reaching 1500–2000 HV) embedded in a tough austenitic matrix. This matrix provides the essential toughness to absorb impact, while the hyper-eutectic chromium carbides act as the primary defense against micro-cutting and plowing abrasion.
