What makes chromium carbide overlay (CCO) wear plates different from standard AR steel?

Abrasion-resistant (AR) steel plates (like AR400 or AR500) are through-hardened carbon steel grades. While tough, their hardness is limited to around 400-500 HB. Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plates, such as our bimetallic composite steel plates, have a deposit layer containing chromium carbides (M7C3) with a hardness exceeding 58-62 HRC (approx. 650-700 HB). This provides significantly higher resistance to sliding abrasion.

Should I choose self-shielded (open arc) or gas-shielded flux-cored wire?

It depends on your working environment. Self-shielded flux-cored wires (like our OEM self-shielded series) contain gas-forming components in their core, making them suitable for outdoor and high-wind repairs where gas shielding would blow away. Gas-shielded wires (using CO2 or Argon/CO2 mixtures) produce less fume and spatter, making them preferable for controlled shop settings.

Can CCO plates be formed, rolled, or welded to existing equipment?

Yes. CCO plates can be cold-formed or rolled into cylinders or cones with the overlay surface facing inward or outward, depending on the minimum radius. They are welded to structures using the mild steel backing plate. The cladding layer itself cannot be structural and is not weldable directly to load-bearing parts.
