Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding remains the gold standard for high-purity, structurally critical joints in stainless steels, nickel-based superalloys, and titanium alloys. Historically, however, the process has suffered from a significant technical limitation: restricted weld penetration. Conventional TIG welding often requires joint preparation, multi-pass beveling, and significant consumption of expensive filler metals. To circumvent this, modern industrial environments have widely adopted Activated TIG (A-TIG) fluxes.
Active TIG welding fluxes utilize custom-engineered mixtures of metal oxides, fluorides, and halides. When applied to the weld zone as a thin paste, these compounds reverse the surface tension temperature coefficient of the molten pool (the Marangoni effect) and restrict the electric arc. The result is a dramatic increase in depth-to-width ratio, achieving deep penetration (up to 8mm in a single pass without beveling) while mitigating heat-induced deformation.
