Technical DetailsModern industrial processing requires equipment to operate under harsh conditions characterized by friction, impact, thermal stress, and chemical corrosion. In the fields of cement processing, iron ore mining, steel mills, and dredging operations, equipment downtime is directly related to revenue loss. Deploying advanced wear protection technologies, such as Chromium Carbide Overlays (CCO), has shifted from a reactive maintenance policy to a strategic operational imperative.
"Tribological wear accounts for approximately 23% of total global energy consumption. Applying tailored gas shielded cladding can extend components' operational lifespan by 300% to 800%."
Under a microscope, Runxing’s bimetallic chromium carbide overlay reveals a hypereutectic structure containing primary M7C3 chromium carbides. These carbides, with a hardness exceeding 1500 HV, are embedded within a ductile, tough austenite matrix. This combination allows the wear plate to withstand abrasive wear from sand, coal, clinker, and ores while absorbing mechanical impacts without catastrophic spalling.
Gas-shielded welding processes ensure that alloying elements such as Chromium (Cr), Carbon (C), Manganese (Mn), and Silicon (Si) transfer from the flux-cored wire to the weld pool without atmospheric contamination. By optimizing shielding gas dynamics—typically using precise Argon and CO2 blends—we suppress porosity, stabilize the welding arc, and minimize dilution with the backing plate. This results in high chromium concentration throughout the overlay thickness.
The demand for advanced wear-resistant steel has increased due to shifts in global industrial infrastructure. Mineral processing plants now require equipment capable of handling higher volumes, running continuously, and demanding less maintenance. This structural shift has moved procurement departments away from low-cost, untreated structural steels toward high-value composite materials.
In highly regulated markets like Europe and North America, as well as fast-growing resource hubs in Latin America, Africa, and Central Asia, the operational standards for wear parts have tightened. Heavy-industry operators evaluate suppliers on E-E-A-T principles: technical design validation, metallurgical consistency, supply chain reliability, and trade compliance. As an established ODM/OEM partner, Tangshan Runxing Machinery Co., Ltd. addresses these demands through customized wear solutions and stable raw material channels.
Cement manufacturing processes involve abrasive materials like limestone, silica, and clinker. Unprotected components fail quickly. Runxing's wear plates are deployed on hopper linings, chute faces, fan blades, and raw vertical mill rollers to maintain equipment availability, reduce energy draws, and stabilize clinker milling efficiency.
In global extraction sites, rock structures scratch, gouge, and wear down haul truck boxes, shovel buckets, and transfer chutes. Our custom-designed CCO plates are cut, formed, and bolted or welded onto high-wear surfaces, protecting structural panels from severe abrasion and impact.
Steel production components must operate under high temperatures, corrosive gases, and abrasive coke or sinter dust. Runxing's high-temperature, wear-resistant overlay products maintain structural integrity up to 750°C (1382°F) in blast furnace bells, distributor chutes, and sizing screen decks.
Thermal power plants handle large volumes of abrasive coal. Pulverizer mills, exhauster fans, burner nozzles, and pneumatic coal pipelines experience high-velocity particle erosion. Using bimetallic composite tubes and CCO fan housings helps extend service life and prevent pipeline breaches.
Handling bulk materials and abrasive slurry during port operations can accelerate wear on loading chutes, hoppers, grab buckets, and dredge pump components. Our high-weld-surfacing hardfacing materials provide structural protection to keep port handling equipment running reliably.
Handling waste, municipal compost, biomass, and scrap glass requires durable processing machinery. Our wear plates are designed to withstand combined corrosive and abrasive forces in shredders, sorting trommels, and conveyor liners.
Runxing Machinery leverages Tangshan’s industrial ecosystem to optimize raw material procurement and logistics. Our proximity to major domestic steel plants ensures a stable supply of structural backing plates, while our automated manufacturing processes reduce lead times. This allows us to keep production runs on schedule and shield international clients from sudden material supply changes.
Our facility runs multiple automated hardfacing stations that utilize multi-wire gas-shielded systems to deposit carbide overlays with consistent thickness and dilution profile control. We operate specialized quality inspection lines equipped with ultrasonic testing, Brinell/Rockwell hardness testers, and wear testing instrumentation. Every production batch is fully documented for complete batch traceability.

Our metallurgical research and development focuses on three primary objectives:
1. Chromium-Alternative and Complex Carbide Claddings: Integrating elements like Niobium (Nb), Boron (B), Titanium (Ti), and Tungsten (W) to produce complex carbide microstructures. These alloys provide higher abrasion resistance and thermal stability up to 850°C.
2. Smart Automated Cladding Equipment: Upgrading our proprietary cladding equipment with real-time sensor feedback. Monitoring welding parameters like voltage, wire feed rate, and gas flow dynamically helps ensure consistent weld quality and bead profiles.
3. Advanced Bimetallic Interface Bonding: Using advanced pre-heating and stress relief cooling cycles to prevent crack propagation into base structures, allowing wear plates to be formed and bent to tighter radiuses.

Open-arc welding wires contain gas-forming compounds within their flux core that release carbon dioxide and nitrogen shielding upon heating, removing the need for external gas tanks. Gas-shielded hardfacing wires use external shielding gas (such as 75% Ar / 25% CO2). Gas shielding offers improved control over slag development, reduces welding spatter, increases deposition efficiency, and helps ensure a clean weld pool for reliable metallurgical results.
Hypereutectic microstructures contain a high carbon and chromium content, leading to the formation of primary M7C3 carbides before the background eutectic matrix solidifies. These primary carbides have a hard, rod-like shape that resists abrasive wear. The surrounding eutectic matrix remains tough enough to support the carbides under mechanical stress, helping prevent micro-spalling.
The stress relief cracks visible on CCO wear plates are normal. These hairline cracks occur during the cladding cooling process to relieve tensile stress. They should run perpendicular to the weld bead direction and stop at the bimetallic interface, leaving the backing steel structural plate sound and crack-free.
We provide full customization options for backing steel grades (such as Q235B, Q355B, or high-temperature alloys), weld overlay thicknesses (typically 3-on-3, 4-on-6, 6-on-8, or custom configurations), and carbide formulations (including Nb, W, or B additions). We also offer cutting, countersunk bolt installations, and rolling services based on your engineering drawings.
