Even traditional quenched and tempered abrasion-resistant (AR) steels (like AR400 or AR500) struggle when subjected to continuous sliding abrasion under extreme pressure.

This is where Bimetallic Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) Wear Plates demonstrate their technological superiority. By fusing a highly alloyed wear-resistant layer to a ductile structural backing plate (such as ASTM A36 or Q235B), engineers achieve a composite material with the structural toughness of steel and the extreme wear resistance of high-alloy castings.

The metallurgical magic lies in the microstructure. During the welding process, chromium-rich primary M7C3 carbides form within an austenitic matrix. What is the difference between standard AR steel (e.g. AR500) and Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plates? +
Standard AR plates (like AR400 or AR500) are heat-treated, quenched, and tempered carbon steels. They rely on overall grain refinement for hardness. While tough, they wear down quickly under heavy sliding abrasion. CCO plates are composite materials. The overlay layer contains primary M7C3 chromium carbides (hardnesses of 1500+ HV) embedded in a ductile steel backplate. This allows CCO plates to offer up to 5-15 times longer wear life under pure sliding wear conditions.
Can Chromium Carbide Overlay plates be bent, rolled, or welded? +
Yes. CCO plates can be cold-formed or rolled into custom curves, liners, and pipes. The base plate (usually Q235B or Q345B) is highly weldable and structural. When rolling, small surface stress relief cracks will naturally open in the overlay cladding. This is completely normal and does not affect the wear performance. The structural backplate remains crack-free, providing mechanical stability.
What are the standard sizes and thicknesses of Runxing RX®wp CCO plates? +
Our standard sheet dimensions are 1400x3400mm and 1500x3000mm. We offer customizable thickness combinations, commonly designated as: 6+4 (6mm base steel + 4mm overlay), 8+6, 10+10, and 12+12. We can configure specialized thicknesses up to 30+20mm depending on your specific wear, impact, and structural load calculations.
